The American Medical Association (AMA), with the support of the ACR and more than 60 other medical specialty societies, will begin conducting a multispecialty survey of America’s physician practices this year.
We encourage any rheumatologist contacted by the Gallup Organization conducting the survey to participate, as the data obtained will be a critical source of information for the AMA and the ACR. Should you be called upon to contribute, your participation ensures that the information collected will represent your and your patients’ concerns to national policy-makers.
The purpose of the survey is to collect up-to-date information on physician practice characteristics and professional practice expenses in order to develop and redefine AMA and ACR policies. The AMA and its partner societies will survey thousands of physicians over the year from virtually all physician specialties to ensure accurate and fair representation for all physicians and their patients. Please watch for the survey in 2007 and do your part by completing it in a thorough and accurate manner.
Get Involved with the ACR/ARHP
The first step to making a difference is volunteering. If you have been considering getting more involved in the work of the ACR or ARHP, now is a great time to apply. Volunteering is a great way to develop a network of peers, to expand your learning opportunities, and perhaps most important, to give back to the profession. Is this the year you will step forward and apply to volunteer?
Application deadlines: April 13 for ARHP committees and task forces and June 1 for ACR committees and task forces.
Final Call for Submissions for AC&R Themed Issue
Arthritis Care & Research is soliciting manuscripts for a themed issue addressing the economic cost and social and psychological impact of rheumatic diseases. The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2007.
Submissions from a range of disciplines are welcome, and all types of manuscripts (e.g., original articles, contributions from the field, case studies, trainee rounds, reviews) are included in this solicitation. All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed.

Dr. Austin Wins 2006 Rodnan Print Promotion
The ACR Research and Education Foundation is pleased to announce that Kenneth I. Austin, MD, was selected as the winner of the 2006 Rodnan Commemorative Gout Print promotion recently held at the Annual Scientific Meeting. Dr. Austin was entered into a raffle drawing along with the other annual meeting attendees who purchased one of the famed Rodnan prints during the meeting.
