ATAP Board Appointments for 2024-25 Include 2 Distinguished ACR Members

From the College  |  October 21, 2024

The Alliance for Transparent and Affordable Prescriptions (ATAP) has recently appointed its board members for the 2024–25 cycle, including two distinguished ACR members who have a strong history of volunteer leadership.

New Board Member: Marcus Snow, MD

Dr. Snow has been newly appointed to ATAP’s board. Previously, he chaired the ACR’s Committee on Rheumatologic Care and currently serves on the ACR Board of Directors. Dr. Snow is also the president of the Nebraska Rheumatology Society and will be filling the position vacated by long-time ACR leader and advocate, Angus Worthing, MD.

Reappointed Board Member: Howard Blumstein, MD

Dr. Blumstein has been reappointed to his board position with ATAP. He is currently the chair of the ACR’s RheumPAC Committee and an incoming member of the ACR Board of Directors. Dr. Blumstein has also served as chair of the ACR’s Affiliate Society Council and held leadership roles in the New York Rheumatology Society.

The ACR’s Commitment to ATAP

As a founding member of ATAP, the ACR is proud to remain actively engaged in its leadership. ATAP has a commendable track record advocating for pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reform. The organization has drafted model PBM legislation and has been instrumental in advancing reform at both state and federal levels. Notably, ATAP filed amicus briefs in the Supreme Court case Rutledge v. PCMA, which affirmed states’ rights to regulate PBMs without conflicting with ERISA, as well as in the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals case PCMA v. Wehbi, which upheld the Rutledge decision.

The ACR is dedicated to supporting ATAP’s mission and collaborating with coalition partners, including the Coalition of State Rheumatology Organizations (CSRO) and the Association of Women in Rheumatology (AWIR), to advocate for continued PBM reform.

The ACR congratulates Dr. Snow, Dr. Blumstein and the other advocates elected to the ATAP board. We also commend Robert Levin, MD, for his steady and strategic leadership as president of ATAP. For more information on the new board members and the vital work of ATAP, visit the ATAP website.
