Bringing a Frontline Perspective to Insurance Advocacy

Carina Stanton  |  March 21, 2019

A New Perspective
Working directly with the ACR through the ISC has given Dr. Phillips a chance to connect with rheumatologists across the country, as well as ACR staff members, including Meredith Strozier, who plays a key role in connecting with insurance carriers on behalf of the ACR and its members.

“I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how effective advocacy can be,” Dr. Phillips notes. “The fact that we can reach out to insurance carriers and others to present good arguments and stances that are heard and change our practice for the better is encouraging.”

On the Personal Front
Off the advocacy battlefield and outside his practice, Dr. Phillips spends time with his wife keeping up with their three boys, ages 11, 9 and 6. To recharge, he trains for triathlons and is looking forward to his upcoming races. He will participate in an Ironman 70.3 in St. George, Utah, in May, and will head to Switzerland in September for the Olympic Distance Triathlon World Championship.
