What Price Glory (or, at Least, Getting Your Foot in the Door)?

Gerald Eisenberg  |  Issue: October 2017  |  October 4, 2017

Opening Doors Despite Few Donors
Our participation in RheumPAC is vital to our specialty and patients. There is nothing dirty or unseemly about getting involved in the political process. It’s as American as apple pie. What I have found particularly impressive is that a small amount of money, carefully directed, goes a long way in opening doors to Capitol Hill opinion leaders. Financial support for candidates who agree with our point of view has made a real difference in key decisions and elections that have an impact on our practices and what we can do for our patients. RheumPAC’s record in influencing decision making is far out of proportion to the tiny number of RheumPAC donors and the relatively small number of lobbying dollars we have so carefully shepherded. Why is that? Because our story is compelling! RheumPAC opens the doors that allow our story to be told.

Support RheumPAC Today!
Imagine what more could be accomplished if every ACR and ARHP member gave back to RheumPAC. It needn’t be a large amount; $25 or $50 from each of us would be a windfall for our specialty and our patients. The rheumatologists of IBJI understand that support of RheumPAC is directly related to the success of our individual practices, the vitality of our specialty and, ultimately, the lives of our patients and their families. We urge each of you to support RheumPAC in any amount you can afford. Take control today!

    I RheumPAC, Do You?

For many years, the ACR board of directors and Government Affairs Committee have done exemplary work in keeping members abreast of legislative regulatory issues that affect all aspects of rheumatology, including patient and physician/healthcare professional issues, education, and research. Through advocacy, the ACR advances rheumatology and fosters excellence in the care of people with, or at risk for, arthritis and rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. One might say that advocacy is a cornerstone of this organization.
