Physician Editor Bharat Kumar, MD, & The Rheumatologist Recognized for Excellence

The American College of Rheumatology and Wiley are happy to announce that The Rheumatologist has received two APEX Awards of Excellence this year for content published in 2024.

Rheuminations, the monthly editorial written by Physician Editor Bharat Kumar, MD, MME, FACP, FAAAAI, RhMSUS, was honored with an Award of Excellence for Writing, Regular Departments & Columns:

  • “The Physical Exam Begins with a Handshake,” April 2024;
  • “Role Reversal: When the Doctor Becomes a Patient,” September 2024; and
  • “The 7 Virtues of Rheumatology We Should Cultivate,” October 2024.

The July 2024 issue, with coverage of AI, workforce issues (academic and potential solutions), MAS, dual certification, flipbooks, CAR T cells, Advocacy 101 fellow’s experience, shrinking lung syndrome case and more, also received an Award of Excellence in the category of Magazines, Journals & Tabloids – Print.

When notified of the awards, Dr. Kumar said, “I’m very much honored to be part of a great team.”

The APEX Awards are judged on the basis of excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence. APEX Grand Awards honor the outstanding works in each main category, while APEX Awards of Excellence recognize exceptional entries in each of the individual subcategories.

According to the organizers, 1,007 entries were evaluated in the following distribution:

  • Campaigns, Programs & Plans: 71;
  • Design & Illustration: 75;

  • Websites: 40;
  • Social Media/Content Creation: 32;
  • One-of-a-Kind Publications: 29;
  • Annual Reports: 19;
  • Workplace Skills & Development: 20;
  • Current Events & Trending Topics: 43.

A total of 100 APEX Grand Awards were presented in 14 major categories to honor the outstanding works in those categories. Four hundred twenty-two APEX Awards of Excellence recognize excellence in 100 individual subcategories.

The Rheumatologist has received 24 editorial awards in 17 consecutive years:
