Practice Management Workshop at the 2019 ACR/ARP Annual Meeting

From the College  |  Issue: June 2019  |  June 17, 2019

Join us in Atlanta Nov. 8–13 for the 2019 ACR/ARP Annual Meeting. Member registration is now open, including registration for the annual pre-meeting practice management workshop: Practice Matters—Navigating a Path to Success!

The 2019 workshop will focus on key practice matters. The goal of the pre-meeting workshop is to address how best to manage your practice within an ever changing environment of managed care, compliance, third-party payers, regulators and declining reimbursements. Rheumatologists and practice administrators wear many hats, which is why the ACR’s Committee on Rheumatologic Care developed a workshop tailored specifically for rheumatology practices.

This full-day workshop addresses the specific needs of rheumatologists, fellows in training, nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs) and practice administrators, as it focuses exclusively on the day-to-day issues faced by all rheumatology practices. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to learn from trainers, consultants and one another.

Highlights of the workshop, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9, include the keynote address, Mastering the Principles to Ensure Your Healthcare Practice’s Survival—Pearls for the Rheumatology Practice. Owen Dahl, MBA, LFACHE, CHBC, will take a deep dive into the solid business strategies needed to run a profitable and high-quality practice in today’s healthcare setting. Additional talks include Key Performance Indicators: The Clinical Signs of the Health of Your Practice; Suitable Models of Telehealth in Rheumatology Practice; A New View on Incident-to-Billing; Nuts and Bolts Operational Issues of an Infusion Clinic; and Medicare’s Targeted Probe-and-Educate Program: What Is It, and How Are Rheumatology Practices Impacted?

The workshop’s key learning objectives include:

  • Discussion of various tools for growing medical practices through additional revenue streams and retail opportunities;
  • Reviewing legal topics, including the fundamentals of compliance, coding and reimbursement, and MACRA;
  • Identifying strategies for practice workflow, revenue cycle management and billing strategies;
  • Examining the building blocks for a strong practice management platform, as well as a clinical documentation indication program to support rheumatology coding and billing; and
  • Discussing how to use all the documentation available in the current chart to research and build effective queries.

Practice Management Roundtable

Don’t miss the opportunity to connect, learn and engage during the practice management roundtable to get your practice-specific questions answered by your peers. Attendees will have an opportunity to identify tools and resources for rheumatology practices, and to discuss and share best practices for collections, hiring, appeals, practice workflow, practice improvement and much more.

Who Should Attend?

The need to understand current trends and obtain necessary tools to conduct a careful and comprehensive assessment of practice operations and financial management are essential to success. Participants should include, but are not limited to, practicing rheumatologists, residents and fellows in training, recent graduates now in practice, practice administrators and administrative staff, NPs, PAs, as well as new employees to a rheumatology practice.

The Annual Meeting pre-meeting practice management workshop is the premier event to address the critical business, payer and regulatory issues that impact physician practice management. This full-day event will provide the most up-to-date information, allowing attendees to decipher the complex web of local, state and federal laws and regulations that govern the business of healthcare. Attendees will leave the 2019 workshop with tools and strategies to improve productivity and proficiency to efficiently and effectively manage a rheumatology practice and achieve business success.
