Providers Who Received Period 1 Relief Funds May Request to Submit Late Reports

From the College  |  April 8, 2022

All organizations that received more than $10,000 in Provider Relief Funds (PRF) from the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) between April 10–June 30, 2020 (Period 1), should have already submitted reports to the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) PRF Reporting Portal by the Nov. 30, 2021, deadline.

However, in response to advocacy by the American Medical Association and specialty societies like the ACR, the HRSA will reopen the Period 1 reporting window for physician practices that did not submit reports. If an organization does not report to HRSA, it runs the risk of having its funds recouped.

The window to submit a Request to Report Late Due to Extenuating Circumstances opens on Monday, April 11, and will close on Friday, April 22. Physician practices should receive information about how to submit a request directly from the HRSA via email. If you received Period 1 funds, did not submit a Period 1 report, and do not hear from the HRSA, you may call the Provider Support Line at (866) 569-3522. Additional information can be found on the HRSA website.

During this reopening period, a provider must choose an extenuating circumstance(s) that prevented compliance with the original reporting deadline. Although attestation of an extenuating circumstance is required, no supporting documentation or proof is required. If the HRSA approves the extenuated circumstances form, the provider will receive a notification to proceed with completing the Reporting Period 1 report shortly thereafter. Providers will have 10 days from the notification receipt date to submit the late Period 1 report in the PRF Reporting Portal.

The ACR will continue to partner with the AMA and other organizations to advocate for greater flexibility and more information to ensure physician practices have an adequate opportunity to come into compliance. Stay tuned for more details on future requirements.
