RISE Registry Stakeholders Discuss Initiatives, Successes at Annual Strategy Summit

Allison Plitman  |  Issue: September 2021  |  August 20, 2021

On Aug. 6, the ACR’s Rheumatology Informatics System for Effectiveness (RISE) registry convened its annual Strategy Summit virtually for the first time. Over the course of an afternoon, dozens of stakeholders, including practice managers, clinicians and researchers, met to discuss the evolution and future of the registry.

“The RISE Strategy Summit is an opportunity for a variety of stakeholders to engage with ACR volunteers, staff and each other as we move the registry forward together,” said Rachel Myslinski, MBA, the ACR’s vice president of practice, advocacy and quality. “Although the professional staff provide planning support for the Summit, it’s an event created by RISE volunteers for RISE stakeholders.”

Volunteers from the ACR’s Committee on Registries and Health Information Technology, including its Research and Publications Subcommittee, and the Quality Measures Subcommittee of the Committee on Quality of Care, led three hours of programming covering a wide variety of RISE-related topics.

After reviewing the history of the RISE registry and its current activities, participants were invited to join conversations during five topic-specific breakout sessions. These breakouts encouraged stakeholders to provide input on improving quality improvement, quality measurement, identifying and bridging data gaps, how to get the most out of RISE and the future of RISE.

According to post-event survey responses, participants appreciated hearing from others about their successes and challenges within the registry, in addition to discussing the details and logic of quality improvement measures.

“Feedback from stakeholders at the Summit plays a key role in shaping the registry. For example, it’s how we identify which innovations we should pursue, what additional support we can provide the rheumatology community and how we should communicate with RISE users,” Ms. Myslinski explained. “We’re building more options for the stakeholders at the table to engage with us and with each other. Events like the RISE Summit are prime opportunities for us to gather that essential input we need as the registry grows and evolves.”
