In patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA), their sex matters. In the session Sex Differences in Psoriatic Arthritis, Laura Coates, MD, PhD, of the University of Oxford, and Lihi Eder, MD, PhD, of the University of Toronto, will discuss sex-related differences in clinical features, disease course, treatment response and pain perception in patients with PsA.
The session, to be held Nov. 17 during ACR Convergence 2024, present new data showing differences in response to biologic DMARDs, and clinical and pathophysiologic variables that may underlie this phenomenon will be discussed. In light of this new treatment data, potential approaches to individualized treatment will be presented.
Dr. Coates is an associate professor whose research focuses on optimal therapeutic strategies in PsA. Her PhD focused on the development of the minimal disease activity criteria for PsA and establishment of the TICOPA trial, the first study to show the benefit of treating to target in PsA.
Dr. Eder has a broad background in rheumatology, with specific training and expertise in psoriatic arthritis, musculoskeletal ultrasound and cardiovascular diseases in rheumatic patients. She is the director of the psoriatic arthritis program at Women’s College Hospital and co-director of the University of Toronto Cardio-Rheumatology Program.
