In late 2023, the ACR became aware of an error in UnitedHealthcare’s claims processing system that resulted in underpayments on J code claims. This error may not have been immediately identified by all practices, as no denials were issued.
In a recent conversation with ACR leaders, UHC acknowledged the error and said it was isolated to claims dated Oct. 8–Nov. 8, 2023. Claims outside this range should have been processed normally. UHC is currently correcting and reprocessing the impacted claims. Practices are encouraged to review all J code payments from the final quarter of 2023. Those that have not received corrected claims or that experienced reduced reimbursement for J code claims outside of the specified date range are encouraged to reach out to the ACR at [email protected].
