ACR’s Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Education Course Helps Rheumatologists Expand Skills

Staff  |  Issue: April 2014  |  April 2, 2014

MSUS Course for Rheumatologists–Intermediate

June 27–29, 2014
Jacksonville, Fla.
Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverwalk

If you’ve begun using musculoskeletal ultrasound in your practice and think you’re ready to expand your skills and learn more about this technology and its benefits for you and your patients, the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Course for Rheumatologists with Interventional Cadaver Workshop—Intermediate may be just right for you.

The Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Course for Rheumatologists with Interventional Cadaver Workshop—Intermediate is designed specifically for the rheumatologist who has attended at least one beginner-level course in musculoskeletal ultrasound and has performed 60–100 scans in the previous two years. With an expert faculty providing you with the latest advances in the technology and application of musculoskeletal ultrasound, the course combines lectures and practical hands-on exercises, highlighting the sonographic appearance of pathological processes in each of the major joint areas—helping you better evaluate and manage your patients’ pain and disease states.

On the first two days of the course, topics include:

  • Ultrasonography of crystalline arthritis
  • Sonography of upper and lower extremity nerve entrapments
  • Ultrasonography of rheumatoid arthritis
  • Fundamentals of ultrasound physics for the rheumatologist

Hands-on sessions on these days will be conducted on patient models with prescreened findings rather than normal models, giving you the opportunity to not only sharpen your skills in image acquisition, but also demonstrate pathologic findings under supervision.

On Day 3, you’ll have the opportunity to practice ultrasound-guided injection procedures on cadaveric specimens. You will be able to visualize needles passing through tissues in real time, unlike the blind insertion procedures otherwise used. You will also have an opportunity to practice injections from multiple simulated approaches, ultimately enabling you to use ultrasound guidance to place local injections with greater accuracy and comfort.

Registration is currently underway for this intensive three-day course scheduled for June 27–29 in Jacksonville, Fla. So if the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Course for Rheumatologists with Interventional Cadaver Workshop—Intermediate sounds right for you, go to www.rheumatology.org/education and click on Professional Meetings and Courses to register and view course information.

Save up to $840 by registering as an early bird! ACR/ARHP members receive preferred rates.
